We believe physical activity should be available to everyone, at every stage of life. Our seniors programming focuses on:

  • Improving mobility, balance, and strength

  • Supporting independence and fall prevention

  • Encouraging social connection and mental well-being

  • Creating a positive, non-intimidating environment

Programs are adaptable to different fitness levels and are led by knowledgeable instructors who prioritize safety, encouragement, and fun.

As the association continues to grow, seniors programming remains a key priority in both current offerings and future facility planning, including expanded space for walking and community use.

Beyond physical benefits, our seniors programs offer meaningful opportunities to:

  • Meet others in the community

  • Build routines and confidence

  • Maintain independence and quality of life

Participants often describe our programs as welcoming, supportive, and a highlight of their week.

Looking Ahead: Our Vision for
Seniors Programming

Northern Edge Sport Association is committed to expanding and enhancing seniors programming to better meet the needs of our aging population in the Bulkley Valley. As our organization grows, so does our focus on creating spaces and programs that support mobility, independence, social connection, and overall well-being.

Indoor Walking Track

A key component of our future plans is the development of an indoor walking track as part of our expanded facility. This space will provide:

  • A safe, weather-independent option for walking year-round

  • A vital resource during winter months when outdoor walking is limited

  • An inclusive space for seniors to maintain mobility, cardiovascular health, and daily movement routines

The walking track is envisioned as a low-barrier, community-focused amenity, supporting not only physical health but also social interaction and consistency in active living.

Expanded Fitness & Wellness Classes

We aim to broaden our seniors-focused fitness offerings to include:

  • Chair Yoga – gentle movement, flexibility, and breath work

  • Pilates – core strength, posture, and balance

  • Spin Classes – low-impact cardiovascular options with adjustable intensity

  • Additional seniors fitness classes tailored to mobility, balance, and strength

All programs will continue to emphasize modifications, safety, and inclusivity, allowing participants to engage at their own pace.

Recreational & Social Programming

In addition to physical activity, Northern Edge Sport Association recognizes the importance of creative and social engagement for healthy aging. Future recreational programming for seniors may include:

  • Art, painting, or mixed-media classes

  • Knitting, fibre arts, or sewing circles

  • Workshops led by local artists, artisans, or knowledge keepers

  • Discussion groups / coffee socials

  • Game days (cards, board games)

  • Guest speakers / workshops

These offerings are intended to foster community connection, creativity, and lifelong learning, while providing welcoming spaces to gather and socialize.

A Community Hub for Healthy Aging

Our long-term vision is for Northern Edge Sport Association to serve as a central hub for seniors programming in the region — a place where older adults can:

  • Stay active and independent

  • Build social networks

  • Participate in meaningful recreational and creative activities

  • Access programs that support both physical and mental well-being

By expanding our facility and diversifying our programming, we aim to respond directly to community needs and ensure seniors in the Bulkley Valley have access to safe, inclusive, and engaging opportunities to remain active and connected.Former Customer
